An interesting web problem, duplicate //s in a url
Thursday, July 27, 2006Ok, so this is interesting to me, maybe not to everyone. Go to this page on on10.net, and notice the lack of CSS... We are using ASP.NET themes and the CSS for the theme gets inserted as a relative reference (../../../themes etc.) ... well IE does the calculation based off of the URL and doesn't find the CSS because the extra slash confuses it. I went into our code and added a check, if the absolute path of our request contained a double slash, then replace it with a single and redirect. Doesn't work, the absolute path never seems to [read more...]Share this -
The iCup Arrives at on10 (The Show On 10)

Microsoft Humanitarian Systems (The Show On 10)
Thursday, July 27, 2006This is so very cool... I wonder if they need any programmers? Of course, my wife wouldn't like it if it meant lots of travel! When you think of natural disaster, software programs rarely come to mind. But Ted Okada and Robert Kirkpatrick of Microsoft’s Humanitarian Systems know from experience that where there’s a crisis, software can be a life-saver. On the front lines of war, earthquakes and floods Ted and Robert develop software applications that aid rescue efforts, assist medical workers, expedites counting and locating displaced people and helps disperse badly needed resources. We’ll meet Ted Okada and discuss [read more...]Filed under | 0 comments »Share this -
on10 visits Penny Arcade
Thursday, July 27, 2006Yesterday, Laura and I headed over to the offices of Penny Arcade to interview them about... well, about a variety of things, it was a very interesting interview. It may be hard to believe, but this was the best picture I could get. Someone's face is covered up in each and every shot I took, for some reason everyone was feeling very 'gesturey' that day. At least Jerry wasn't covered up :) [read more...]Share this -
Assassin's Creed for Xbox 360 gets previewed - Joystiq
Tuesday, July 25, 2006Ok, so I have to admit something... when I saw Assassin's Creed in the various E3 videos, I was sad. The game looked amazing, but I'm not going to buy a PS3 ... you can see my dilemma. Then I see this on Joystiq ... and considering God of War II is a PS2 title (not that I have a PS2, but I'm thinking about it... more on the later) ... there isn't anything announced yet for the PS3 that I feel like I'm going to miss. Parental Control Software (ComputerTime)
Thursday, July 20, 2006I saw this on Techie Diva today... and it was immediately appealing, but the attraction dimished quickly. This isn't any fault of the software, as far as I know it does its job perfectly, but I just don't think this is the way to deal with this problem. I have given parental control over technology a lot of thought lately, not only because I have two kids of my own, but also while writing the parental control chapter (a chapter I'm really proud of, I think it is a great bit of info for parents) in Xbox 360 for Dummies. We've release yet another update to on10.net
Tuesday, July 18, 2006This one appears to be a bit special, as we are labeling it 1.0, which I guess means the site up until now was in Beta... I had no idea :) [read more...]Filed under | 0 comments »Share this -
Yahoo now has a video site... called "The 9"
Monday, July 17, 2006Now, I'm not saying they are copying anything we are doing, and I get where the "9" comes from (they show 9 videos a week), but still... it is hard to not to wonder why they ended up with a name like that for their site... Link to The 9 for Monday July 17th [read more...]Filed under | 0 comments »Share this -

UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) coming soon to on10.net
Monday, July 17, 2006When I was in Winnipeg the week before last, I went out to film the folks at MicroPilot... very cool stuff. They make autopilots for UAVs, including many used by the military of various countries. [read more...]Share this
